The very first thought that had entered Neve’s mind when they had met, blooming like a flower there amid all the other noted observations (Mourn Watcher, audacious, too dependent on her magic), was I want to smudge it.
That dark line that graced her lips—her grins, frowns, and pouts made all the more expressive for that unfaltering shape—taunted her. Not smearing from the sweat of battle. Always untouched even when she was mid-sip. Not budging from the simple tap of her fingertips along her corner, removing a crumb. What would it take?
I want to smudge it. Wanted to leave her mussy, dishevelled, and altered because of the line of product smeared, leave a print of where her fingers had been.

Summary
(Summary might change slightly as the story unfolds.) The first work of several that I'm planning for a series that explores Morana and Striga further and gives them the love and depth they deserve.
King Casimir, the man who sired Carmilla and became her husband, is growing increasingly tyrannical, unhinged and paranoid. Carmilla is unraveling beneath him, her desperation barely held together by Morana’s steady, unflinching rationality. For decades, they have kept the damage contained while slowly orchestrating the right conditions to seize the throne.
When Morana returns mostly unharmed from an incident she refuses to elaborate on, Carmilla’s fear curdles into something else entirely. Morana’s continued withholding of information provokes Carmilla’s retaliation, and the queen punishes her advisor, sister and confidante in an insulting, controlling way: she assigns Morana a personal guard.
It is a decision that will quietly and irrevocably the course of everything that follows, and Morana is not prepared for it.
