Summary
The former demon gripped the door handle, the shop bell ringing as he swung the door open and entered. Aziraphale, still standing right by the door organizing the display, immediately turned to greet him. “Hello! What can I help you with?”
Crowley had almost forgotten to breathe. “Angel?” The words came spilling before Crowley had time to think, soft and sacred on his tongue. His eyelids threatened tears, and he had to blink a couple of times to avoid making a fool of himself.
“Beg your pardon?” His heart stopped.
“Don’t you… Don’t you recognize me? It’s me, Aziraphale. It’s Crowley.” His vocal chords trembled at his friend’s name. Maybe Crowley did look too different. God, he hoped he did. He wanted Aziraphale to remember him. He needed his angel to remember him.
“Um. I’m sorry, sir. I believe you’ve got the wrong person mixed up,” Aziraphale’s eyes furrowed, a mix of pity and confusion. “My name’s Asa Fell.”
Crowley hated the way his voice became vulnerable, “You don’t… know who I am?”
