He shook his head. “Not evil, no,” Will said, meeting his eyes. “You are…something else.”
“And yet here you are,” Hannibal said. “You are the reason you’re here, Will. No one else. I warned you not to hunt the dragon. I told you to think of me, not to worry about me. I told you to kill us both, if that is what you needed to be free.”
“I know that,” he snipped.
“I was promised a soul,” Hannibal said. “You’ve left me with a ghost. I won’t be tricked, Will.”
OR:
Will has been living like a ghost in Prague. Hannibal is having none of it.

The monster under Will's bed calls himself Hannibal. He has lived there since Will was old enough to have a bed. He is very smart, and Will likes him very much. He protects Will's dreams, wakes him when he has nightmares. He embraces Will with shadows that black out the morning light when dawn comes, and sings soft songs that Will doesn't know.
Will doesn't know what he looks like, because he refuses to reveal himself, even when Will peeks his head over the edge of his bed and tries to catch a glimpse.

After the fall, Hannibal and Will have settled in Spain. Will expected their relationship to progress to a physical intimacy, but Hannibal hasn't seemed interested in it. Will tells himself he's okay with that, except Hannibal keeps sneaking out at night and Will can't - won't - tolerate the thought of him being with someone else. Hannibal belongs to him, and Will is going to make sure he knows that, through any means necessary.

Hannibal has to face the music and take responsibility for the mistakes he's made and the trauma he's inflicted. Angsty, fluffy, softly smutty, and a happy ending to make everything okay again.

“You were very angry when you arrived.”
Will’s eyes flicker to his, and his nose screws up almost incredulously. “Someone tried to kill you.”
“Hardly,” Hannibal replies, trying hard not to laugh. Will’s answering glare is rather lovely. “Incapacitate, yes. Nonetheless, that is a rather interesting point, considering you’ve tried to kill me.”
The fingers on his shoulders clench down enough to hurt, but Hannibal doesn’t flinch. “Exactly. You aren’t allowed to die unless it’s by my hand.” Will growls. The dark, possessive undertone to his words hit Hannibal’s lungs like a sudden crack of thunder.
_________________Alternatively: Set after Randall Tier and before the Vergers show up. Hannibal gets mugged on the way home one night, resulting in some rather superficial injuries. Cue one very angry, very jealous Will Graham and a night that changes the game between them forever.

Will conjures summer itself through sheer will, as though he could pull Hannibal out of winter’s grasp and set him down in a field of green and gold. Hannibal knows nothing of the ache of bones any longer. His days are filled with cooking and cleaning, the motions of care and love. He kneads dough with his mother’s frantic energy, channels her restless hands into feeding Will, keeping him full. And Will, in turn, keeps him warm. It is love.

Will felt the word heavy over his tongue, as stuck to his teeth as it was to Hannibal’s. Even if he could get it out of his throat, he knew he couldn’t say it now. He wasn’t even sure if that was how he truly felt, but if it was… Hannibal wouldn’t believe me… not now. For all the puzzles Will had solved, Hannibal loving him wasn’t one he had ever pieced together."
