Summary
Trunks is six years old. He's learned to read. He's learned to punch. He's learned that the world is dangerous, that his father is the strongest man alive, that his mother is the smartest woman alive, and that he is the product of two worlds that don't always fit together. But when Bulma finds a first-grade math worksheet crumpled in the trash and Vegeta finds Trunks practicing ki blasts in the backyard at dawn, the long-simmering argument about their son's future finally boils over.
Bulma wants Trunks to go to school. To have friends. To be a child.
Vegeta wants Trunks to train. To be prepared. To survive.

“There could've been any better way to do this. Are you just that horrendous at flirting?”
Bulma was at her doorstep, in the middle of the night, facing downward at what was an absolutely foul-smell that spread through her house. It felt like someone fused burnt plastic with road-kill.
Which it was, in a way.

Summary
Trunks is four years old. He has his mother's eyes and his father's hair and a sensitivity to ki that neither of his parents fully understands. He has never been to Planet Vegeta. He has never seen the flames or heard the screams. He was born years after the explosion, on a world light-years away, in a bed in a compound in a city on a planet that has never known Saiyan rule. But the blood remembers. And tonight, in his dreams, the planet dies again — and Trunks wakes up screaming with the echo of a billion souls in his chest. Vegeta reaches him first. He is always faster. And he picks up his son and holds him and says the only thing he knows how to say — I am here, I am here, I am here — until the screaming stops and the terror recedes and the small body in his arms remembers how to breathe.
