    Summary

In 196 AC, Lord Elmure Tully fielded a blow in the Redgrass Field that would have cost Prince Baelor Targaryen his leg, if not his life. Ten years later, the Targaryen dynasty rewards this loyalty by proposing a match between Elmure's eldest daughter, Maeve, and the widowed Prince Maekar.

But Maeve, whose blood has always run hot, finds the constraints of her new life in the Red Keep stifling, her stepchildren odd and antisocial, and her new husband strangely hesitant to frequent her bed. How lucky, then, that gallant Prince Baelor seems so fond of her...

It's only an innocent friendship. What could go wrong?

    Summary

“Easy now, Your Grace. You’ll make the claim wound worse, and it’s ugly enough already. I’ve seen dogs mark each other gentler.”

Ser Duncan the Tall should have died at Ashford. Instead, he won—and in doing so, committed a greater offense: he put his teeth to a Targaryen prince. What passed between him and Prince Aerion refuses to stay buried. As whispers spread and the crown moves to contain what it cannot name, Dunk finds himself bound to the very man he should fear most—and cannot seem to leave.

    Summary

"Apologies, Lord Lannister," Ser Duncan says, his voice steady, tone stern. Aerion has to, embarrassingly enough, go on his tiptoes to catch a look at his profile, and his face seems confident, not at all intimidated by the annoyed gaze Lannister throws him. "Prince Maekar was very clear that no one was to touch Prince Aerion without his explicit consent."

Lord Lannister makes a complicated face, as if he can't quite understand the words out of Ser Duncan's mouth. "Pardon me? No, Prince Maekar wants his son wed within the year. All of the Seven Kingdoms has heard it by now. If he expects no one to touch him, he might as well lock him in his chambers and lose the key!"

Aerion steps forward as white-hot anger flashes in his veins; he moves, intending to beat this puny little lord's insolence to a bloody pulp, but Ser Duncan throws an arm out and forcibly shoves Aerion back behind him, a warning growl on his lips.

Lord Lannister freezes. Aerion freezes. Ser Duncan stays relaxed.

    Summary

“If I break my oath, even for you—” Dunk’s voice cracked. He thought of Ser Arlan’s face. Of Egg’s trust. Of everything he’d built himself to be. “What would that make me?”

“Mine.” Aerion’s fingers slid to the nape of Dunk’s neck, tangling in his hair. “It would make you mine.”

There are two kinds of distance between a common hedge knight and a Targaryen prince: the height that separates them, and the morality that should.
