He does not throw himself in harm’s way to save people or run towards danger because that’s just stupid, okay, and he is not quick on his feet and does not think fast or have that one idea up his sleeve that, in one way or another, miraculously saves the day.
But he can be honest. Honest in a way that’s a . . . a little bit reckless—maybe even dangerous, almost. He can toe the line that splits whatever he can and can’t say or do, because that’s just Will, okay? Three pairs of wide eyes stare at Mike, and he feels panic rise in his throat. The seconds that pass feel like an eternity.
“What?” Lucas is so confused he seems to have suddenly sobered up.
“Well…” Mike doesn’t know how to continue the sentence.

“What I mean is that he always apologizes. He was educated that way.” Ted is looking directly at Will now, as if he’s managed to gather all the courage he needs and now can’t waste it. “Whatever he did, he’ll fix it.”
Will feels a tightness in his chest, a lump in his throat, and it's overwhelming. He thought he'd already humiliated himself enough in his life, but apparently not, because he starts crying in front of Ted Wheeler.
Ted was not planning to give relationship advice today.
