The Granger's were only holding their marriage together for the sake of their child. But, the Wilkins had no children to speak of and thus no reason to remain together. When Hermione tracks them down after the war, she finds they’re happily divorced.
Her father accepts her back with open arms while her mother wishes never to see her again.
Hermione goes back to Hogwarts for her 8th her father meets someone new… a witch. The widow, and mother of two, helps him better understand what Hermione went through, why she sent him away, how dangerous the wizarding war truly was, and helps bridge the vast chasm between father and daughter.
