“Sorry,” Izuku said, wiping the gravy off with the back of his hand. “Um… this is —” Did Okami even have a word for squid? Gods, he was so unpractised. “Summer festival food,” he explained instead. “Y-Yummy.” To his own horror, Izuku began rubbing a circle over his stomach.
Katsuki’s lip quirked, and Izuku prayed very hard for Nana-sama to lightning strike him into ash.
Izuku’s shoulders sagged. “My Okami—”
“—Is still atrocious.” Katsuki smirked, clearly revelling in the shock on Izuku’s face.
Izuku and Katsuki weren't meant to become close. They weren't even really meant to meet. The differences between their clans — and the significant language barrier between them — should have ensured that.
But nobody has ever needed perfect grammar to fall in love anyway.

Prince Katsuki was looking for a spouse. Or rather, his family wanted him to find his spouse. The one he was destined for. His grandmother had had a vision when he was little, and now Katsuki had a diamond pendant that would turn green when he met his true love. That was why the kingdom's noble families had been assembled at a grand masquerade ball, so Katsuki could dance with all the eligible men and women one at a time, in the hopes that he'd find his perfect love.
Izuku is both elated and nervous about attending the ball. His family lost their noble status when he was a child, and have since become farmers. Luckily, Izuku remained friends with Shoto and Tenya. It's with their help that Izuku gets to attend the ball, but Izuku is worried that someone will recognize that he isn't supposed to be there. Izuku doesn't want to get thrown out before he gets a chance to see Kacchan again. Unlike with Shoto and Tenya, it had been impossible for Izuku to remain friends with a prince when his family was shunned.
When the two finally get the chance to dance, everything changes. Including the diamond pendant. After tonight, no one will be able to keep them apart ever again.
