Summary
Everything was calm. Still. Peaceful. Until it wasn’t…
I don’t remember exactly the circumstances that landed me on a cold slab in a church morgue.
All at once I was aware, but I didn’t know where I was. My thoughts scrambled for clarity.
“Um…where are we?” I asked. “I mean, was I dead? Who was that guy?” My thoughts were suddenly racing as I heard what sounded like gunshots outside the room and down the corridor. “Was that gunshots?”
The nun reached out and put her hands on my shoulders in an effort to calm me. “Do not worry child. We will be safe here. Come, let us sit away from the door.”
Everything in me was telling me that I should run. Every instinct telling me that the sound of gunshots did not equal safety. But even with those feelings, I also felt a warmth in me that I had never known. I was alive. Heck, I was moving all my limbs for the first time in years. I had just protected myself against…wait. I just killed a man. All of a sudden, I felt a sense of dread. My stomach churned at the thought and emptied next to the deceased man.Series

Summary
“Let me go,” Ava whispered, pain obvious in her voice. I shook my head no.
I could not imagine letting her go into an unknown void where I would not be able to follow. However, recognizing her resolve for me to not watch her die, I caressed her face gently and said, “be free”.
“I love you.” Ava’s face was full of sorrow, knowing this could possibly be goodbye.
My mind raced with a dozen thoughts until one stood out among the rest. In an instant my mind was made up.
I turned to Lilith and instructed, “tell Mother Superion what happened here. Tell her I’ll do everything I can to ensure our return.”
“Our?” Lilith began to ask, eyes widening as she realized my intent.
Before another word could be spoken, I pushed myself forward, wrapping my arms as tightly around Ava as I could without pressing too harshly into her divinium shrapnel wounds. Holding her close, I whispered in her ear, “I love you” and let us both be pulled into the energy of the portal together.
I didn’t know what would await us on the other side, but I knew one thing for certain: she wouldn’t be going alone.Series

The first thing Beatrice learned about her new roommate was that she was loud — not in the sense that she annoyed Beatrice, but Greta had been soft-spoken and Beatrice was quiet, so the noise that came with her new roommate was something she wasn’t accustomed to. The new girl was always humming or singing quietly to herself, tapping a rhythm with her fingers or toes while she worked.
The second thing Beatrice learned about her new roommate was that she could make anyone laugh — Beatrice had never seen Lilith giggle before she’d met the new girl. Beatrice found herself laughing and rolling her eyes more in the last two weeks than she had in the last seven years she’d been at this school.
The third thing Beatrice learned about her new roommate was that she refused to talk about her past, the girl would evade any question about how she came to sleep on the bunk above Beatrice with ease. Beatrice hadn’t noticed at first, the way Ava answered her questions had made her feel like she’d learned something about Ava when she truly hadn’t.

Summary
“Hello, Mrs. Silva. I’m Beatrice Young.” The woman reaches her hand out for a handshake. She has a posh accent, which Ava unfortunately finds very attractive. “At last we meet.”
Oh. Ava blinks a couple of times. Beatrice Young, teacher of Year 3 A, had been e-mailing her for a few days, asking her for her lesson plans so they can synchronize their classes. From the e-mails, with their serious and professional tone, and her lesson plans, extremely meticulous and standardized, Ava could not have imagined that…
Beatrice is very hot.
“It’s Miss Silva.” Ava corrects, cringing a bit. This will be a correction she will have to make multiple times, she sees. “You can call me Ava, though.”OR: After a personal loss and a messy divorce, Ava Silva returns to teaching Year 3 at Sacred Heart of Mary Primary School, where she is excited to use her chaotic and revolutionary methods. Beatrice Young, her more traditional counterpart, only sees it as irresponsibility. When a (surprisingly fun) rivalry over class averages ignites between them, sparks fly (and not just the competitive type).
