“I’m okay. It's for you.”
The silence is awkward. He rubs his own arm, and Bob glances at the contents of the bag. Now that John can get a better look at him, the lights on and face-to-face, another kind of thought creeps in from the back of his mind. Bob is pretty, and he doesn’t know what to make of it. The thought is sudden, brief, almost nonsensical. Pretty is not the word he uses, though, but he refuses to repeat it.
“Well. Thank you.”
John nods, turns around, and leaves.
Or: Healing comes in waves, or so John has come to learn the hard way.

''Hey, Mitchell'' A hoarse voice calls out while he's grabbing his helmet from the locker. ''Will you need a ladder to get on the plane?''
Laughter erupts from behind him. Maverick turns around, nonchalantly. ''Will your brain cells need one to get to your brain?''
The room falls silent. Ice, who never wastes his time paying attention to the conflicts in the locker room, turns to look at Maverick.
And his eyes stay.

Ice laughs. Pete could get used to the sound. It’s softer than his voice and a little nasal. His heart does that thing that makes his chest feel all fuzzy inside. Pete can’t stand it.
