And by the final period, in which he felt wound so tight, his claws were wearing little grooves into the wood and he’d retained even less math, science, kanji and history than usual, he’d decided. If nothing else, she was something new and interesting. Something he couldn’t predict, couldn’t figure out, couldn’t block from invading his nose, his ears, his mind.
