Yelena comes back for an overdue drink with Kate. They become friends— almost something more.
But after a year of late-night chats and quiet trust, three years of silence follow. Kate Bishop becomes someone she swore she’d never be: someone who waits. Now she’s a rising journalist, watching Yelena Belova’s face across every news station. The same Yelena who once hated the idea of Avengers is now wearing the title herself.
When they’re pulled back into each other’s orbit, every step forward feels like walking on cracked glass. Kate wants answers. Yelena wants forgiveness. Neither of them believes they deserve the other.

Summary
The gingerbread man on Kate’s green sweater is half-covered in flour, but infuriatingly, that only adds to the charm as she leads Yelena to a spot in the middle of the kitchen, bringing Yelena’s hands to her own shoulders before taking hold of Yelena’s waist, slowly guiding their bodies into an unsteady rhythm that Yelena supposes could be called dancing.
“Did you remember to get the first batch out of the oven?”
With a hum, Kate spins them both in place once, her eyes glinting. “Let me see… I can’t smell anything burning, so I think I did. I also put on the second batch just before you got back, and I even remembered to set the timer and everything. I did the dishes, too.”
“I am impressed, Kate Bishop,” Yelena deadpans. “All that and you didn’t need to use the fire extinguisher even once.”

Summary
The thing is, she didn't die on Vormir (it felt like she did, but she didn't); instead, Clint used one of his trick arrows on her, and he was the one who jumped. Now, some time later, Natasha Romanoff has to learn to live in a world that is slowly rebuilding, where the Avengers are retired, and where her best friend is gone, taking half of her soul with him.
That's when she meets Kate Bishop, who, with her unstoppable fire and comically bad jokes, reminds her too much of Clint Barton.
Or, a rewrite of Hawkeye where Natasha is alive.

Summary
Yelena leaned in, pressing her lips to Kate’s for a brief moment. A sharp taste of salt and blood lingered on her mouth; she hated the sensation, but said nothing.
“There. A real kiss, then. I hope you’re satisfied,” she said as she pulled back, her eyes finding Kate’s again. “Now, can we change the subject?”
A small, mischievous smile lit up Kate’s face for a few seconds.
“It seems like you’ve kissed me back to life at least twice today, love.”
A faint blush rose to the Widow’s cheekbones as, in her arms, pressed close to her, Kate gradually relaxed. As if that small, tender gesture—that simple kiss—had drained some of her tension away.
OR - A cargo ship, a mission gone wrong, Kate going through hell, Yelena doing everything to keep her close, and everything that comes before, during and after.
