Summary
Connor was starting to develop a habit of not speaking up about his problems. He would neglect himself for the sake of convenience.
If it was a problem he could fix himself, he would fix it.
If he thought it would only cause problems to others, he wouldn’t bring it up at all.
Interestingly, it’s a common human habit—to withhold information out of fear that it would cause more harm than good. If a person felt they would only become a burden by sharing their problems, they might deem it better to not bring them up at all.
Or: Connor sustained an injury in the field and proceeded to keep it hidden. It doesn’t work out quite as well as he’d hoped it to.

Summary
The first cage he finds has a sign on it.
It’s made out of old driftwood and it reads: “Deadly! Do not open!”
Stan reads it a few times. The words have been written with red paint which has smeared across the sign in a few places. The writing is hasty and barely legible, as if it was done in a moment of great hurry or panic. The red paint and the occasional splatters make it look like blood and the numbness in Stan’s brain recedes long enough for him to snort a derogatory laugh and roll his eyes.
His brother can be so dramatic.

After the portal incident, Stan frees all of Ford's specimen. He thinks that's the end of it.
He couldn't have been more wrong.

Mac's seen the local roads and they’re too rough to make a fast getaway by land. “You get to the plane and get the engine started. I’ll distract them with these, and follow.”Jack looks unhappy with the plan, but there’s really nothing else to do except run back to the unkempt wilderness zone at the edge of the property and hope they can disappear into the trees. And that plan still sounds worse. “Fine,” Jack agrees. “But you better be quick about following me. I’m not flying out of here by myself.”
Mac gives him a pat on the shoulder as he picks up his three half-constructed smoke grenades, balancing them on one arm so he can pick up the jug containing the final component in his other hand. “I’ll be right behind you. As long as you can fly that plane, we’ll be fine.”

“Told ya! The thingy!” Stan barked and shoved past Ford. The latter bit back a frustrated growl. An unbecoming habit he had picked up. When Ford caught up with Stan, he was standing in the cockpit, gesturing at the anomaly detector. Ford sighed and sat at the console. It was somewhat cramped, like the rest of the ship. Steel equipment had been bolted atop old, salt-worn metal, white paint flaking from years of weather and use. Their renovated home-away-from-home was distinctly of two worlds.
The anomaly detector had picked something up that would probably be a few days’ journey away. East, toward the Norwegian coastline.
[Or: Ford and Stan attempt to seal an inter-dimensional rift. They meet a monster. It doesn’t go well.]

For just a moment, the ever strange town of Gravity Falls seems almost peaceful.
