    Summary

    “Pilot awake!”

You tear your eyes from the myriad of glass tubing crowding the bunks. That was most definitely not the same automated voice that the computer had spoken with earlier. You turn around, and—

Well. You have no fucking idea what you’re looking at.

Your brain rapidly oscillates between fight or flight, fight or flight, before settling on the third option; freeze and scream. Your already dry and strained vocal cords squeeze and shred in protest, so it comes out less like shriek and more like a raspy whine. Get with the program, larynx!

The creature makes some sort of shrill, musical noise back, waving its appendages at you. Which you can only assume is some sort of offensive posture. Holy shit.

“Not worry! Rocky friend! Grace! Pilot friend awake!” The creature trills.

Hail Mary's commanding officer wakes up two months late.

    Summary

“You misunderstand my intentions.” The woman got stiffly to her feet, leaning both thin hands on the table and bringing herself several inches closer to your face. The energy in the room became immediately darker, thicker, and more commanding. It took real effort not to lean back and keep the distance. “I am not here to convince you, or recruit you. I am simply here to retrieve you. The helicopter is waiting up at the main building.”

You opened your mouth to retort, to argue, but one hand raised by the woman had you swallowing any hope of dissent. She leaned back to rap two knuckles against the door, an action that immediately summoned two broad men from the hallway. Though you couldn’t see their expressions, your face paled at the view of their readily-wielded assault rifles and bodygear. The European woman offered only a tight smile in return. “I have the full force of the US army on my side, and we are- well, as you would put it- kidnapping you to save the world."

    -or-

You are a research assistant, "hired" towards the end of Project Hail Mary to help Dr. Ryland Grace develop the world's understanding on Astrophage. But why did it have to be... someone like him?

    Summary

Before the Spencer Mansion incident and subsequent destruction of Raccoon City, you trusted Captain Wesker. Some were wary of him, and you may have been the same at some point. But you became special. He wanted you, in his way. You saw sides of him that no one else would ever know, yet even those were given to you with careful intention. You only saw what he wanted you to see.

Perhaps that’s part of what made your involvement with Jill Valentine so special in comparison. Honesty, kindness, simplicity. There was no one else like her in the world.

Ten years later, both Jill and Wesker are gone. Raccoon City survivors have summons from the US government, and you see faces you never thought you'd see again. Can you survive lies, love, hatred, lust? Can you keep chasing sex to quiet your own thoughts?

There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in

    - "Anthem" by Leonard Cohen

    ---

Heisenberg flashes his teeth, starting to speak, but you talk over him. "I agreed to your game, and I'm not going back on my word."

Heisenberg's lips pause barely parted. He watches you, chin tilting down - a clue that behind the sunglasses, he's looking you up and down.

He leans forward slightly, his weight pressing into the soles of his boots. Gunmetal grey hair swaying. "We both know," he says your name in a low, gravelly pitch, "this is no longer a game."

    ---

You followed a fairytale deep into Romanian woods and found yourself inside a nightmare.
And the Iron Steed of lore found you.
Fighting for freedom has unexpected complications for both of you.
