Summary
They had a system.
The lights stayed off. They were there, in case of emergencies or guests, but outside of those extenuating circumstances, they never turned on. On especially dark or cloudy nights, Kris cracked a glowstick and circled it around their wrist when they walked into the kitchen around 4:00 AM to make coffee after giving up on sleep for the night. Sometimes, the smell drew it out of its room; she'd come grab a cup, and they'd sip the hot, bitter liquid together in silent camaraderie. Usually, Kris drank the small pot alone.
...
It feels selfish, like some violation of the silent pact they’ve made with themself, with Dess. An unspoken agreement to fade quietly from this world, to break away in little pieces over time, make their peace and let the others make theirs.
...
They are warm. A hand on their wrist. Breath on their shoulder. Snores shaking the floor. They are comfortable, and safe, and loved, and somehow this is worse. Because the warmth isn't theirs in the same way the screams weren't theirs; because Kris is a quiet thing, a cold thing, and the pain belongs to them but the fire does not.(i.e. Kris and Dess are forced out of their downward spirals and learn to be loved.)

Summary
(placeholder name subject to change)
Noelle and Kris have known each other forever; they grew up together, Kris pulling pranks that made Noelle shriek only to get chased around by Dess with a wiffle bat in retaliation, playing video games together until Kris inevitably decided to get up and go play the Holiday family's piano...
Then Dess went missing. Kris went quiet. Asriel left for college. Distance grew between friends.
Dess came back. Kris started to smile again. Noelle and Kris reconnected, and together, they survived high school.
College is going to be a new challenge all its own, but at least they're in it together, right?
...Then Noelle meets her new roommate, Susie, and things get a little more complicated.
(AKA I refuse to pick a ship so all three of these dorks are going to figure out the whole friendship thing and fall for each other or so help me)

Summary
“Seven years,” Susie growls. “Seven fucking years. No calls, no texts, no nothing. Have you been in Castaway this whole damn time!?”
“Yes,” Kris says without a beat. They cough, wrenching their control back from the SOUL. “I mean. No.”
“Two completely different answers, dude,” she continues. “Do you even know how much you messed up your parents? How much you messed up Noelle?”
Seven years ago, Kris fled Hometown when the entity controlling their SOUL disappeared, leaving them with the consequences of its actions. Now, in the grimy, middle-of-nowhere town of Castaway, Kris must deal with its sudden return. The SOUL threatens the balance they've found in their new life, and may even threaten the lives of their old friends, too.

Summary
Everyone knew that Asriel and Dess were best friends. They knew it, the whole town knew it, even if not all of them understood how the punk and the golden boy got along, they did.
That's all that ever mattered to them.
Until they started getting older, and life happened, and naturally, as kids do, they started to drift apart.
Middle school came and went, and now they were freshmen in high school; they were practically strangers again.Neither of them knew how to change that, so they've become strangers who know far too much about another stranger and have nowhere to put that feeling.
Until one day, the perfect, track-star, golden boy, never without a smile, Asriel Dreemurr, stops smiling when he thinks no one is watching, slowly crumbling from his pedestal.
And the ones who notice aren't his friends, his teachers, or anyone close to him.
It's a stranger who knows enough to see just how scary that is.Bookmarked by King_K_Rool

Summary
Nothing was the same when Dess vanished. For anyone. But especially not for Kris Dreemurr and Noelle Holiday. Brought close by their older siblings, they had mattered a lot to one another, and grew to enjoy each others company.
Dess disappearing and Asriel leaving changed that.
Poor Noelle had to learn how to navigate a life without her bold older sister beside her, cheering her on and hyping her up.
Kris had wanted to be there for her. They tried to be there for her. But it had felt as though a wall had built between them. an impossibly tall wedge, driving deeper and deeper, separating them more and more.
If you asked either of them, they'd say they were still friends. But that was... not exactly correct. Not anymore at least.
Grief, fear, and resentment built, and they kept each other at arms length.
They yearned deeply for the past they cherished. But could it ever come back with such a turbulent present?
One of them had to try eventually.
