“He almost wanted to laugh. Almost. How could he lay there, dying, and still sound so fond? He could almost pretend they were bickering somewhere safer. A library in a village, perhaps. And they were shaking from excitement rather than injury. And D3rlord’s voice is so breathy from lack of use rather than weakness.
“I’m easy to find, D3rlord, but I’m not so easy to get rid of.” Avery tightened his grip on the other. This was pathetic, desperate, but if he held on tight enough it felt real. “I told you, my life is owed to you. There’s no chance I’d let you stay here alone.”

Post canon fix it fic. Avery discovers that Derek lives just down the hall, and that dying to eldritch terrors is a slower process than they thought. Maybe, just maybe, Avery can find a way to save D3rlord. It’s what he deserves.

This AU was thought up by myself and @RainbowViper05- mostly by them, if I'm being honest. In this AU, the characters are performing DAWTDE (without the minecraft elements) as a musical for a community theatre.
Avery's character is named Mayon
Derek's character is named Derlorde
Hastur is the CHARACTER name- his real life name is Hayden.

When a part of the cerebral cortex dies, it’s inevitable that the function that correlates one part to another loses its purpose.
But all you need is a reconnection.

A part of him was scared. Is scared. He could live a life beyond this. Could live a life forgetting Derek, a stranger he’s searched for longer than he’d even come to know. It would be easy, to forget. It would be simpler.
But simple is New Year’s Eve spent alone at home playing Minecraft off a laptop he’d picked up in a locker he was never meant to pry open. Simple is watching hours worth of video content, of the gameplay of a man solving puzzles in a seemingly impossible situation on that sandbox game. Simple is being alone.
Derek was always meant to reach Avery, and Avery was meant to be reached.
This time, Avery means to do the opposite.

They’re with their family—their friends—for another journey, one without the King’s Curse nipping at their heels, and everyone will be together for the foreseeable future. So Siffrin is fine. “I won’t stay for long,” They promise through shuddering breaths, and D3rlord3 feels the dread slowly start to sink in, “I just needed to– see you. That– that sounds selfish,” they laugh, humorless, “It is. I– I am. I’m sorry ███, I really am.”
It hits D3rlord3, then. This sounds like goodbye. No, no, no.
They start to pull away, and D3rlord3 desperately gathers his remaining strength to latch on to anything . Nothing wants to cooperate, his body suddenly aching with effort, but still he– fights. He grabs on to their hand, fighting through the smoke and haze, ignoring how his muscles scream in protest and his eyes sting, but it fades to nothing when D3rlord3 touches them again, something unreachable finally in his arms and he can't lose them, he can't—
“Stay,” he croaks out, begging.

D3rlord3 survives the King in Yellow, but he's forgetting someone important. It doesn't help that the person he's forgetting seems so adamant on staying forgotten.
