Like this: Sylvain’s always known that, if they manage to make it through the rest of this war, they’ll have to eventually turn their efforts towards securing the future of Fódlan. This thing between them—whatever it is—was never meant to actually last. So long as he remembers that fact, holds it tightly against himself like a counterweight, it's pretty easy to keep moving forward; one foot in front of the other, all that wanting left somewhere beyond his direct line of sight.

Sylvain reaches over from his cot to clumsily pat Felix on the arm. “Well anyway, don’t worry about it. If you’re looking for somebody interested, I don’t think you’ll have any trouble finding them. Anybody would wanna deflower you.”
Felix doesn’t mean to say it, is the thing. He means to tell Sylvain to fuck off, colorfully, for his use of the word “deflower.” He means to tell him that he’s not worried, shut up. He means, more than anything else, to get them to drop this subject and never pick it back up again.
Instead, for some fucking reason, he opens his mouth and asks: “Would you?”

Lucifer jumps, only now realizing that he had been twisting the wedding ring on his finger. Alastor watches him with a strange mix of apathetic curiosity, almost as if he doesn’t really care about Lucifer’s answer at all.
“I don’t know,” he says distractedly, looking down at the gold band that sits as familiar on his hand as his own skin. “I don’t really remember what it’s like to not wear it.”
(Depression is Lucifer’s most familiar enemy and the next time he’s struck by it, Alastor, in a bid to cheer him up, brings up Lucifer’s long-overdue divorce. It works, oddly enough.)

He opens his mouth. He doesn’t get anything out beyond,
“I-” It’s all it takes for Alastor to crack an eye open and look down at him. Lucifer wonders what he sees. A pathetic, watery-eyed, fallen angel looking at a mortal sinner like he hung the moon in the sky. What a joke. Lucifer grimaces and looks away. Story of his life. Nothing but a big joke.
