"Don't people usually do a good deed, like, because it's good? Not for a reward."
"Most people got sandwiches. Most people don't wander around Gotham in the middle of the damn night."

Summary
For as long as he can remember, Zuko knew he would have no say in who he would marry. Anyone familiar with basic royal customs would realize it as well. Marriage wasn’t a luxury or some grand display of love; marriage was for convenience and a power move if done correctly. It meant nothing to Zuko. He was raised with the knowledge that he would one day be sent off to live with a stranger for the sake of his nation, and it didn’t matter if he ended up happy or not. His happiness didn't matter.
All this to say, when his father tells him that he is to marry a stranger from the Southern Water Tribe and use their marriage as an opportunity to spy on the enemy, Zuko knows he has no choice. It's just...he didn't expect this stranger to be so kind to him.

Summary
"You will experience a love that is passionate and fiery...Their love for you will remain steady. They are endlessly loyal and fiercely protective. They will come up with innovative ways to live a better life and to make the world a better place, like you.”
The seer leans in close and whispers even quieter, “And best of all, you are both incredibly physically compatible,” ending her prophetic monologue with a wink and a leer.
He is about to order the guards to drag this old lady's ass out of his sight.
Visions of a prophetess haunt Zuko. Long ago, he made a promise to never lose himself in the wiles of destiny and fate ever again. That promise was sealed with blood. It will be kept for as long as he lives.
Yet hope is catching, and his inner fire reaches for it, craving its nourishment like a flame starves for oxygen. It devours Zuko from the inside out with an ancient hunger.
Or, in which Zuko redefines what destiny and fate mean to him
