Aleph didn’t bother correcting the girl, her happiness - and smugness - shining though her victorious smile. Kiperina clapped her hands happily, and 6 spared a glance their way, finally turning off the tap.
“Gather sidekicks!” Matilda's voice bounced off the space. Everyone stayed where they were. Kiperina motioned her head and 6 and Aleph gathered near the kitchen island. She slapped the book down onto the table. “We’re going to make cake.” She said proudly, crossing her arms.
6 visibly brightened at that, and Kiperina looked over excited. “Aleph, you read out the instructions.” Aleph shrugged. He didn’t really care but the cake was appealing.
“Kiperina, you will do the main baking part or however it works!” Kiperina gave her the thumbs up.
“6! You….you do whatever.” 6 simply nodded.
Matilda placed her hands on her hips. “And I will lead us greatly!”

When Sushang first entered the main palace, she had been appointed to the position of an Imperial maid, with some awkwardness, by the Advisor himself after she had helped save him from an ongoing attack in the Fanghu. It was then that she had bowed six times towards him, head down as the Emperor stared at her for a few moments before permitting the “gift”. He spoke slowly and carefully, but she had been so nervous at the time—so still that even Dan Heng’s hand on her shoulder made her jump—that it flew by too quickly and suddenly she was dressed in a maid’s attire (in clothes that were too soft for her when compared to her home, which scratched at the edges of her wrist and ankles comfortably).
(She hadn’t been sent to work amongst the Cloud Knight because it was the advisor whom she had saved and he was part of the pacifistic faction that was determined to reach a ceasefire–something that the Emperor had shot down with a single motion much to his disappointment)
And it was as a maid of the Imperial Palace that she soon came to learn exactly how simultaneously boring and exciting it was to be in the main palace.
