“Alright, fine. But only because I get to see you all sweaty and half naked.” Chance answered with a smirk. She made it sound like a joke, but truly, she was serious. Maria during training was a sight to see.
“Of course. Pervert.” The taller one rolled her eyes, but let a small smile slip. She knew she was attractive, and she liked hearing it.
“That I am. Well, I expect to see you in your best outfit tonight. Bye bye, Ria.” Chance smirked at her one last time, before turning around and walking out of the office, her hips swaying more than necessary.
Maria noticed the extra sway, but didn't say anything. She just licked her lips and sighed, going back to her paperwork.

Natasha still refuses to meet her eyes. “I don’t trade with sailors.” It’s not like she’s got any money, anyway.
The strange woman only smiles further and Natasha really thinks she doesn’t understand people. She reclines further in her chair behind the counter, and, somehow, Natasha doesn’t feel any less threatened. “Suit yourself.” She shrugs.
Natasha eyes her somewhat suspiciously, one last glance to the fish in front of her. She catches the smirk alight on the fishmonger’s face and she flares at the sight of it. What humanity, to sneer at those you take from. Though, she supposes this woman has no way of knowing what she is. She slips away without another word – little crowd to disappear into but melting away nonetheless.
“Have a good evening,” she hears behind her. She can imagine the look on her face.

Sharon slides the picture closer. Maria finally looks down at it. She picks it up, studies it, traces the edge of it with her thumb.
“It's not her.”
“How do you-”
“Listen to me, Sharon. Clint saw her fall to her death, she sacrificed herself for him, for us, she died on an alien planet while I was erased from reality, alone and scared and wondering if we'd ever make it back. The news called her a hero for it, and we buried a flag in her grave. My wife is dead. I don't know who this is,” she pushes the picture back to Sharon, “but it isn't Natasha Romanoff.”//
She plants a cherry tree, one day, and calls it Natalie.
It's stupid, maybe, but it was one of Natasha's alter egos. One way she was rebirthed, once upon a time.
So maybe, maybe this cherry tree, or Liho, or whatever, something close to Maria can be her next reincarnation. So she doesn't have to be gone gone; so she can live on, in the space around Maria. Gone, yes, but still lingering. Gone but present, like an echo, living through the things it resonates off of.//
Or, Maria Hill retires to a farm in the middle of nowhere; she has a cat, a cherry tree, and the unsurmountable burden of her grief.
