    Summary

Angela did not want to be in Tokyo, rescuing Genji from his own bad decisions. She especially did not want to be working with Genji’s brother, but she was willing to, only because Genji had previously vouched for him so hard. The fact that Hanzo was so obviously concerned for his brother helped.

She wondered just how far forgiveness could go. She wondered what could inspire a man to murder his own brother.

It’s a disturbing question that, as Angela soon finds out, has an equally disturbing answer. Of course, it comes out in the most horrific way possible.

Genji had more or less healed from the immense trauma he faced. This would be a huge set back, of course, but Angela was sure he would recover. He had moved on from what happened.

    Hanzo had not.

    Summary

The hit resonates above the noise of the city. His head snaps to the side, eyes forced to the cracked concrete below. He can feel the blood beading where her ring has carved into his cheek and it stings under her touch but the vitriolic Arabic that so sharply rolls off her tongue right after cuts so much deeper.

"You are an only child, Ibn al Xu'ffasch."

Her nails dig into his jaw, forcing his head up to meet her eyes. "You have always been an only child. You'd do well to remember that."

A part of him resents her for calling him the sole heir. Splinters at the idea he was born alone. Another wonders if she is right. If he can even call himself a brother anymore when his is scattered, thousands of miles away, ashes in an unmarked grave.

    ". . . I understand, Mother."

    ---

AKA - Damian was a twin, once. But the League has no need for two heirs, and as far as he knows the Bat must only need one son. So when he is sent to live with his father, it is not merely blood relation that makes him refuse the idea of new family. Not that they know this.

    Summary

Jason was supposed to protect the innocent, protect the kids, and his whole world view crumbled around him as he realized he couldn’t take it back. He would always be the type of child murdering scum that he’d been trying to rid Gotham of. He would always be a Robin killer.

How was he any better than the Joker?

Or, Jason thinks that he accidentally kills Tim at Titan's Tower. He doesn't handle it well.

    Summary

He made the mistake of staring at the rear-view mirror, seeing the reflection of the man on the driver's seat, and in his tired state his mind began to wonder.

It brought him back to the early days after returning to Gotham. Back then he would compare himself to Frankenstein's creature. Some being that shouldn't be alive, that had something inherently wrong with it, barely human as it was. A creature who had been abandoned by its creator. He would compare himself to it because that made sense, that explained why his dad would turn his back to what happened to him. But now he realized that was not true.

His problem wasn't his dad, too scared of looking into the eyes of the monster that was made of Jason, giving up on him. It was quite the opposite.

Bruce finds out about the Lazarus side-effects while Jason overthinks where they stand with each other.

    Summary

Death wasn't a friend, calling you for a game of tag—though it certainly ran towards you. It wasn't a mother, with soft hands and a comforting touch. And it wasn't a father, taking you into it's arms and tucking you to bed once you fell asleep on the couch again.

No, it was early in life, earlier than he would like to admit, that Jason Todd found the truth about it.

Death was cold, merciless. It wasn't delicate. It was painful. It took mothers in the middle of the night, thrashing and agonizing as the drugs finally ceased her heart. And it took children, far from home, as they begged for someone to come and help, being left alone with the sound of laughter and metal breaking skin, and the absence of the ringing one would hear after an explosion.

So yes, it could be said Jason knew everything there was to know about death. He had seen it on others, had been through it himself. What he didn't know was what came after.

Or: The Lazarus Pit has some side effects and Jason forgets to mention it to his family.
