Summary
Will Byers is a young struggling artist working for a small company that designs custom book covers. Quiet, gentle, and far too obedient for his own good, he takes low-paying commissions just to survive another month in New York City. He doesn’t expect much from life — until he gets assigned a project connected to the most powerful man in the publishing industry.
Mike Wheeler is untouchable. A feared publishing CEO who holds the entire city in his grip, he is cold, controlling, and used to getting exactly what he wants. And the moment he notices Will, he decides he wants more than just his art.
What starts as a professional opportunity quickly turns into something far more dangerous. Mike wants Will to be his submissive — always close, obedient, and entirely his — while Will finds it harder and harder to resist the attention of a man who could either destroy him or become the only person who truly sees him.

Summary
“Look,” Will says, turning fully on the pallet to face Mike, one hand reaching down for the rough wood to find purchase and ground him. “Do you-, do you want to show me. Like-, like want to practice?”
Mike’s eyes widen but he doesn't say anything.
“Sorry, stupid idea, just wanted to help.” Will is trying to gather the words back up from the air between them and into his mouth.
“I never thought it was stupid.” Mike says, so quietly it's not much more than an exhale. “I suggested it first.” He adds, like it's a secret.
Will grips the pallet harder. “Show me. I really do want to help.”
Mike bites his lip a sec, and Will thinks he's going to say no, but then Mike's darting forward and pressing his lips firm and quick against Will’s. It's barely a kiss. Not romantic. Not enough to leave a scar. Will bleeds anyway.

Or: Mike has been kissing Will on and off since they were seven. How are you supposed to recognise an avalanche when you are drowning in snowballs?

Summary
It’s New York City’s hottest summer on record, and Mike and Will land the perfect post-grad serving job in one of the city’s finest restaurants. They’ve got loads of cash tips, two shiny new college degrees, a cigarette in each hand, and the whole city at their fingertips.
What starts as a sex joke written on an order ticket evolves into passing dirty notes with no goal other than embarrassing each other in front of customers. The sneakier, the filthier, the more absurd, the better.
Sometimes I think Chef should put you on the menu. You already look good enough to eat. -M
You’re so fucking greedy, I know you would devour me. -W
The lines of the joke blur when their smoke breaks in the alleyway start heating up into something else entirely.
Or: Mike and Will can only ask for what they really want when it’s in note form.

Summary
“You know it’s illegal to paint here, right?”
The painter doesn’t look at Mike. Instead, he hollers back, “what are you, a cop?”
The spray can is still hissing against brick, and it’s still getting under Mike’s skin. “No,” Mike finally settles on. “Just a… concerned citizen. You know. Because of the aerosol.”
“I don’t think you’re supposed to smoke there either. Do you not see the sign?”
"I smoke here every Wednesday and Friday night,” he says, dragging the cigarette from between his teeth. He pauses a moment before exhaling through his nose, smoke dissolving into the biting October air. He stares at the paint. “You know, I don’t think that’s good for the environment.”
“I don’t think aerosol paint is what’s killing New York, dude. Especially not with jackasses like you who smoke like chimneys.”
Or, when native New Yorker Mike Wheeler steps away from his band’s shitty downtown club gig for a smoke, he meets Zombie Boy: the eclipsed twin brother of infamous street artist Lab Rat, haunting the neon walls of Alphabet City.
