    Carlos Alcaraz, 27, and well on his way towards becoming the undisputed GOAT of tennis, appeared with none of his usual effervescence at his press conference yesterday. Were it not for the golden trophy sat gleaming by his elbow there was nothing in his demeanour to indicate the completion of a double three-peat at Wimbledon.

    Little could the assembled press pack have known, however, of how we were about to be treated to the biggest sporting scoop of the last decade, if not century.

    “I need to step back from tennis for a bit.” Alcaraz declared without fanfare.

    Or, Carlos takes a sabbatical and somehow ends up working at Jannik's restaurant.
