Summary
In the courtyard of the Schnee Estate, Ruby and Nora help Penny realize she has a soul within her, that she’s always been more than a machine. Ruby calls Jaune over to empower Penny’s Aura with his Semblance, but he says: “I can’t just boost her Aura forever”
The eventual conclusion of this is to take Penny to the Vault where the Relic is stored, and then wish upon Ambrosius to “make a new version of her, using her exact same robot parts.”
But what if things went a different way?
Willpower is quite possibly the strongest thing at Humanity and Faunus-kind’s (peoples/persons) disposal—the tool that allowed them to survive and in some ways thrive in the presence of relentless Grimm attacks and total domination of the world by the creatures of Darkness.
Penny has Aura. Penny has a soul. Penny is a person. Penny has willpower.
It’s thanks to Jaune she realizes this, and thanks to Ruby and Nora that she realizes she’s been a person since she was first created. Penny doesn’t need to be ‘human’ to be “real”, nor be ‘real’ to be “human”. She just is, as she always has been. The miracle of Pietro’s work.

Summary
The fight with Cinder Fall in the Central Location goes another way. A Maiden falls into a fairytale and in her grief chooses to be something else. But as the saying goes "the heart never forgets." The Tarnished Maiden will remember she once had friends. She will remember she was once a protector and a guide. But she begs to be rid of the rest, and becomes something both organic and synthetic, in the end.
Thus reborn, the Tarnished Maiden wanders the Ever After, trying to put things right that go wrong.
OR, a Volume 9 Role Reversal. Penny as an Ascended Rusted Knight, Jaune as another life gone too soon. And Ruby, trying to reconcile the girl she used to know with the woman before her now.

“Ok Pen, ready?” Ruby asks, giving Penny’s hand a reassuring squeeze. Her girlfriend’s bright green eyes slide closed and she takes a deep breath. On the exhale, she lets her shoulders sink down and back.
“Yes, rosebud, I am ready,” Penny replies confidently, and Ruby’s heart flutters. But at the same time her eyes narrow somewhat. The nickname was soothing for Penny in the way it was stimulating for Ruby, and for the other girl to break it out now means she's probably feeling some amount of trepidation. Ruby’s other hand comes to rest on top of Penny’s, and the ginger-haired woman turns her head to gaze into Ruby’s silver eyes.
“It’ll be okay, bug," Ruby says, giving Penny's hand a squeeze. "If you don’t like it, you can say so and no one will force you to try again. But…I think you’re really gonna like it. Even if I don’t.”

Ruby is a girl with silver eyes, a werewolf, daughter to the pack leader of Rose-Xiao Long Clan which oversees Patch, and a vampire hunter.
Her Uncle Qrow is training her, but he's weirdly protective and cautious with her and she hates it. So sometime after her 17th birthday, she accepts a random quest she is in no way qualified for and (with the help of Maria Calavera) sets off for Mantle in the Kingdom of Atlas on a mission to infiltrate and assassinate a vampire.
Things go wrong fast.

But nothing had hit quite as bad as this. Penny Polendina was gone. Atlas and Mantle were in ruins. Two Relics had been lost, and Jaune Arc had spent more of his life alone in a world of fairytales than he had on Remnant. He was (mentally) almost as old as Qrow and Taiyang.
He feels disconnected from everyone. Emotionally distant.

Her uncle was an alcoholic and a sporadic presence in her life. Her father withdrew into himself for years and left Yang to raise her. Yang bottled up her emotions and hid behind jokes, smiles, and deflection so perfect you'd think maybe that was her Semblance.
Maybe what she needs won't come from her family. Maybe someone else's dad can help.

Summary
Ruby has a special way of making Penny feel. She's supportive, she's reassuring, she's soothing and understanding. Ruby is patient in so many ways, so really it shouldn't come as a surprise that Penny's feelings take a new shape as she learns more about the world and relationships.
...and yet it does, to Ruby at least. Of all the things she expected to learn about her friend, she would NEVER have considered that Penny would be fascinated (and turned on?) by Ruby's sweat and scent after a workout.

“Asked you a question,” Ekko husked before she could truly get distracted again. He had pulled away from her a few inches, and her entire being itched to close their distance.
He’d asked her a question? Ugh, probably a stupidly boring one, asking if she was “okay” or whatever nonsense. He SHOULD be using that mouth to make her see Janna in the flesh (wind?) but his hold on her braid tightened, craning her head back ever-so-lightly. Powder hissed at the delicious stinging sensation.
“Sorry. Think I zoned out there,” Powder practically purred, giving him a hooded glare she knew he loved, “can you say it again?”
Ekko growled, low in his throat, closing the distance and ramming his knee between Powder’s thighs. His mouth returned to her throat for a moment, but he didn’t connect his lips and that almost made Powder whine.
Almost.
“Do you always have to be such a brat?”
“Your brat. You know it drives you crazy,” Powder hummed.

Really, Jinx is just fucking pissed that he read her so well. She goes home in a bad mood, forgets to check her messages, and gets a pleasant suprise.

Months after the destruction of everything Ekko believed in, the ruination of his grandest dream and the death of his closest friends, Ekko has fallen on hard times. What began as a righteous quest of revenge against the man who had taken everything led Ekko down a spiral of self-destruction: every day a race to the bottom of a bottle and then the sweet release of inky black sleep.

Ekko took a steadying breath, closing his eyes for a moment to find the resolve to continue. Jinx felt herself holding her breath in anticipation for whatever warranted this kind of build-up.
“I came back for you, Jinx.”
‘Oh.’
Then Ekko continued, “The other timeline was like a dream. And you can’t live your life stuck in a dream. I wanted this. Something real. You.”
Ekko’s hands had taken hers again, though the touch was light, leaving her with the opportunity to wrench them away if she wanted. It took her a moment to process his words.

Taking a leap forward means leaving a few things behind...
WELL while taking the leap forward with Arcane Season 2 Act III, the writers sure left some VERY IMPORTANT Timebomb scenes behind. This fic is going over the scenes we missed out on starting immediately after Season 2 Episode 9's cold open with Jinx and Ekko.

“And a Coke Zero for you, miss,” he finishes, stepping back and smiling at them.
Vi’s eyes harden, and her powder blue eyes narrow, “Coke Zero?”
She spits the words like a curse, whipping her head to glare at ‘Chuck’, whose name she doesn’t know yet.
“Uhm, yes. Your, uh, sister? Said to ord—”
Vi jabs her fork in Jinx’s direction, lips splitting into a snarl. ‘Chuck’ takes this as his queue to slip away.
“You’ll catch me dead before that shit ever touches my lips. And I’ll come back from the dead to kick your ass if you try it.”
The atmosphere around the table shifts immediately. The laughter dancing around them dies, and a cool breeze from the AC vent overhead has a practical effect in lowering the temperature.
Jinx, completely unphased, leans across the table and lets the fork hover inches from her throat. She meets Vi’s gaze without a hint of trepidation, then reaches out and boops Vi on the nose. And then she retreats back across the table, sitting on Ekko’s lap instead of her perfectly good chair.
