Adora knows they need to talk. They really, really do. Summary
It's been eight years since Adora left Weaver's group home, leaving her best friend Catra behind as well. Now Adora finds herself living in Whispering Woods, a quiet country town in the middle of nowhere. A peaceful and quiet place where she can heal, or so she thought. She wasn't the only one who decided that living in a small town was a good idea. Catra owns the only bar within a thirty-mile radius along with co-owner Scorpia and it doesn't help that the only thing that makes Adora feel any better nowadays is alcohol. Adora keeps the last eight years of her life under as much wraps as possible and Catra still hides some of her own secrets.
This is a bit of a role reversal in a way. Adora is the one who struggles emotionally while Catra is the more stable one in their shared adulthood.

Adora likes to read soulmate books. The more tortured and star-crossed and dramatic, the better. Sometimes Catra wonders if Adora feels like she missed out. They don't have an epic romantic story—they just grew up together. How is Catra supposed to compete with some fairytale heroine fighting through a magical war or alien invasion to save the person she loves?
She covers her insecurity by teasing Adora mercilessly about her reading choices.
“Good book, princess?” she asks, smirking.
Adora rolls her eyes. “There aren't even any princesses in this one.”
“If there are no pretty blonde royals traipsing around, how are you supposed to self-insert?” Catra teases.
Adora looks up at her with an expression that is entirely too smug. “Did you just call me pretty?”
Catra pauses, meeting her eyes. “Yep.” The confidence slips a little from Adora's face as she starts to blush. “You're pretty...stupid. And so is that fairytale crap.”
Soulmate/soulmark AU where Catradora grow up knowing they're soulmates, but Catra still manages to think that Adora doesn't want her.

Catra is the leader of a Horde tracking unit working against the Rebellion, a guerilla resistance group that's recently got a lot better at anticipating the Horde's moves and surprising her with traps. While Catra outwardly dismisses rumours that the recent setbacks are down to a newly recruited Rebel trapper, she's becoming more intrigued all the time by the beautifully simple mechanisms of her opponent's snares, the intricate ropework, and the long blonde hair she'd found on her face after a net had snatched her up into the air.
If the war's going to end anytime soon, she knows she needs to get her hands on this new Rebel asset - by any means necessary.

Willing her racing heart to slow the fuck down, Adora responded with as much sincerity as she could muster. "I understand."
"Well in that case," Scorpia rose and made her way around the desk. Adora stood up a little too fast, her head spinning, but was still able to firmly grasp the handshake that was offered to her. "Welcome to The Fright Zone, Miss Greyskull."

You like my attention on you, you don't even care that practically everyone, including your friends, have been staring at us since you took my hand." It's a shot in the dark but Adora is trying to get a read on where Catra actually is, because this feels... intense, in a way Adora hasn't experienced before, and it doesn't fully feel like it's because they're so-called 'enemies'.
"A game? You think this is a game?" Catra raises her eyebrows at Adora's words. "I'm here to keep an eye on you, and that's it. Truly you need to get over yourself and bring that big ego of yours down a notch. It's pretty damn close to getting as big as your forehead." She bites back, a smirk on her lips.
