Maybe it was her just desserts for being such a pain in the ass as a teenager herself. She could ask her mother for her thoughts on how to handle it, but—
Maddie’s heart fell a little further. How long ago had her mother uploaded? Two years? Three? And already her visits were tapering off. The whole world was getting awfully quiet, not just the dinner table. Like the elves departing for Valinor but way more shitty and unfair, leaving broken families scattered in their wake.
Dave spoke up, breaking her out of her thoughts.
“But my favorite thing about him was his good heart. He was kind, honest, and sweet despite everything that happened to him. He was determined to do the right thing for the world, but the hard part was figuring out what that was.” It wasn’t often you met a person you could genuinely call noble. Her dad was the only other person who came to mind. No wonder Caspian had wanted him to be the guardian. No wonder he’d finally become it himself.

Using it even though there were things not-glorifying-to-Him.He wanted so badly to hate her.
He was selfish, he knew, but he couldn't help himself. His love for her was growing cold, bitter, and he knew that with every sleepless night he spent mulling over the pain she was causing him, he only threw another pebble at the pile of resentment that was gathering in his heart. His days were becoming heavier to carry on with, due to the weight overload in his chest.
He couldn't keep blaming Aslan for putting his greatest desires in front of him only to rip them away.
"Rest assured, young king, you will see them again" Aslan spoke tranquilly.
"Pardon me, your highness, if I can't allow myself to believe you," he answered tightly, his throat still constricted by a knot.
"Whether to believe or not is entirely your choice, …Caspian, a long journey still lies ahead of you."

“I promise, Su…” – and she watched as her quiet little brother contemplated again, choosing every word with care – “…I promise you that there are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.”
Susan listened, waiting for Aslan’s reply, but heard only the hush of the snow. Until –
A roar. It ripped and rolled through her blood and her bones.
A roar to crack mountains.
A roar to rattle stars.
A roar to splinter time.
Time.
The air seized tight, paralyzed. Snowflakes and petals shot downward as if magnets had suddenly yanked them to the ground.
Time.
The forms of the trees went black, backlit by a sudden, blazing, white light. The vacant, frozen air quivered.
