Yes, Ava likes girls (and boys). Yes, she has no trouble acknowledging when a girl is pretty, or hot, or both. Yes, horny is one of her few default mindsets. But to be fair, she’s twenty-two and very new at this. Girls, boys, romance, sex. Life. So what if she chose her personal trainer because she let out a loud “hot damn!” when she saw her picture online, along with all the martial arts she has mastered? What if she let instinct choose rather than reason? Who hasn’t? So, yeah. Let her have this, okay? Plus, she’s just looking. Discreetly. She thinks. And Beatrice does seem like she’s a great trainer, considering all the reviews Ava read about her.

Summary
Firefighters know the importance of good water pressure. Or, at least, that's what Ava would tell the crew when they asked why she always took a shower at the station.
The water pressure at Ava's apartment was shit, and the station always had hot water. So, every night, every morning, and sometimes, randomly in the middle of the day, Ava would take full advantage of the facilities.
Except that wasn't the whole truth. They really were great showers, sure, but the real reason Ava carefully planned every time she showered was what Ava was doing right now.
Sometimes, if Ava got the timing right and said just the right things, she could convince someone to join her in the shower.
So, tonight, during her second shower of the day, Ava was pressed against and three fingers deep inside one Lieutenant Beatrice Lin-Watson while the rest of their crew was obliviously watching Sharknado: The 4th Awakens across the firehouse.

Summary
After being broken and bruised and running for her life, Ava runs into Beatrice.
OR
Beatrice was hell-bent to find the man behind all the scars Ava hid. Something ignited in her at seeing Ava's broken body, and she knew right then she'd never let Ava get hit again. She held the gun straight out, with steady hands, pointed at J.C., Beatrice's eye flickered to Ava's and said, "Ava, wait in the truck."
