A deep breath escaped his lips, “99 out of a 100 times a kid goes missing he’s with a parent or family member. Have you called Lonnie?”
He could see Joyce’s lips tighten at the mention of the man. If she was going to bring up his kid, he would bring up her ex. Was it petty? Yes. Did he care? No. (well maybe a little but he would never admit that.)
“And what about the other time?”
“What?” Hopper ran a hand down his face, eyes rolling as another exasperated sigh escaped him. The hangover headache was getting far worse now.
“The other time. You said 99 out of 100, what about that other time? I know my son Hopper,” Her voice was starting to break and he could see the shimmer of tears in her eyes. “Jim. Please.”

She looked up once she reached the counter, which contained you standing behind it with a slightly dropped jaw and wide, unblinking eyes. The corner of her lips curved into a small smile and she tucked her phone into her pocket, replacing it with a sleek black wallet.
You struggle to find your voice, voice suddenly dry and you can hear Daisy cackling quietly, "H-" you have to clear your throat once more, sounding like a frog calling for a mate, "What can I get you?"

Summary
It was a struggle to maintain a healthy relationship with how often Rio traveled, and the edges of Agatha's patience were fraying. Little strands plucked apart each time Rio left for work. As time passed it began to seem like they would never repair, never be braided back together.
"Besides," Rio drawls, a smirk crawling onto her lips and eyes lighting up, "It makes the times I'm back all the more enjoyable. Don't you think so?"
It was subtle, hardly noticeable, but a speck of pleading tension in her voice, begging Agatha to drop the subject. The older woman narrowed her eyes, a more mature and sharper version of when Nicky had done it, and her nostrils flare. Big brown eyes meet cold blue ones.

Rio and Agatha's marriage is strained enough as it is, with how often Rio leaves for buisness trips. When Nicholas goes missing, possibly kidnapped, while she's away - the precious bond they had fractured even more.
