Perdition-class starfighters have no pilots. The trillion dollar triumph of military engineering and ingenuity instead utilizes a complex, proprietary “neural core” AI to optimally run all systems and make intelligent, strategic decisions in defense of the Nation. The only living being aboard a Perdition starfighter is its Adjutant Engineer, a rigorously trained specialist who maintains the systems and ensures their efficient operation.
Or at least, that’s what the propaganda says.
Hana believed it at first. It’s what kept her going through the shock of Post Augmentation Trauma Syndrome. It’s what kept her disciplined, kept her focus honed through years of medical school.
Until her former commanding officer recruits her into a top-secret weapons program and introduces her to P-555, a footnote in cargo manifests and an empty space on crew rosters.
A woman who does not exist.

All the beauty of this place couldn’t mask that it was still a cage. An exquisite, gilded cage, for an equally adorned occupant. To this day, he still never knew what he preferred. His years in slavery, being whipped and beaten for the smallest transgression, or this. The Scarred King. That was who he was now. Through no choice of his own, he had become a figurehead who kept the realm in a time of peace and prosperity. His years as a slave had hollowed him out so he was nothing but a shell. Perfect at following orders, and doing what he was told. But not willing, or able, to do anything himself. So he’d stand and be a perfect little puppet.
