Summary
The music feels like it’s echoing around Eddie’s skull with how loud it’s gotten and he fumbles over the counter for the radio, batting at the volume dial. It never fades out though, and he reaches for the cord, yanking it free from the wall. “It was so— fucking loud,” Eddie rubs his temple, “Sorry, I’m sorry.”
Steve is staring at him as if he can hone in on what exactly Eddie is thinking. He offers up a shaky huff of a laugh, “Radio was fine, Ed, you barely had it on.” He plucks at the plastic netting on a bag of apples when he tells him, “I wish you would move in with us. With me and Robin.” It’s a burst of a statement.

Summary
There’s no response from Steve and Eddie is contemplating swapping out his bun for donuts when Steve starts laughing. A full bodied laugh that has him pressing his wrist to his mouth to keep from losing his lunch all over the car and Eddie finds himself smiling despite his confusion. “Are you— Are you experiencing a medical event? What’s happening here?”
Steve chokes down some water and sighs, “My parents really sold me on this idea that I was gonna get out of school, go to college for business, take over for my dad, live in some— some mansion on a lake.” He gestures between them, “And now i’m waiting on tourists and sharing table scraps with Eddie Munson.”
Eddie huffs out a small laugh, “Bit of a downgrade, huh?”
“Are you kidding me?” Steve shoves his fingers through his hair, “This is— kind of perfect, actually.”

Summary
He calls Eddie, closes his eyes against the cold metal of the boombox and still feels his face heat up when he hears Eddie’s gravelly voice on the other end.
“Hello?”
“Munson, are you a fan of Slayer?”
There’s a moment and then that genuine laughter. The one that’s a little higher pitched than the low teasing one he puts on. “You called me at midnight to ask me about thrash metal? You’re lucky my uncle works nights.”
And maybe the music has shaken a few screws loose in Steve’s head because he grins and says, “You not allowed to talk to boys after dark?”

Summary
“Stede?” Ed’s voice sounds so calm, entirely conversational, and Stede lets his head roll to the side on his pillow to look at his dark, beautiful eyes. Stede hums and Ed looks impossibly shy for someone who was just inside of him, “Did you mean what you said? Just now?”
Ah, Stede thinks, the love thing
“Of course, darling.” Stede rolls entirely onto his side then, sliding his foot forward so that he can wedge his leg between Ed’s, “I would never lie to you about that.”
Ed shrugs but his cheeks are flushed and he looks entirely pleased now, “Men say things they don’t mean all the time when they’re fucking.”
“Well I’m not most men.”
“That’s right,” Ed drags his hand over Stede’s back, “You’re a gentleman.”

“Oh.” Ed looks out to the sprawl of land, their friends milling about like the most lackadaisical group of livestock he’s ever seen, but mostly at Stede. Leaned intently in towards Jim while they tell him about their latest adventures into the tropics. “Sometimes I’m afraid I’ve caged a bird.”
“Hmm.” Lucius looks out towards Stede and claps his hands atop his knees, “You think Stede would prefer whatever the fuck it was we were all doing before over this?”
“Piracy?”
Lucius shakes his head aggressively, “That wasn’t piracy, no, no. That was a shit show.”

He actually wants to watch the Fellowship of the Ring, has actually been waiting for this for uhhhh, what, like, twenty years of his life? Problem is, there’s another thing he’s been waiting for for almost as long, and it’s sitting right next to Eddie, making little soft impressed noises at Gandalf’s fireworks, flashing quick smiles his way when he offers him the tub of greasy popcorn.
He's not going to be able to remember any of the movie, he’ll just remember this: the white-hot screaming bliss of sitting next to the love of his fucking life, and not knowing if it’s cool to try and hold his hand or not.
