Summary
Following the death of Charles’ mother, Moses Smith (Charles’ father) turns to alcohol to drown his sorrows in. This leads to many bad things including the widening of the rift in Moses and Charles’ father-son relationship.
A 13-year-old Charles seeks refuge in his neighbours, the Kitchens.

This is my take on Charles’ childhood and what finally caused him to leave home as a young teenager.
Disclaimer: this was written at midnight after I had a menty b so if the pacing is weird that’s my bad.
Title came from The View Between Villages by Noah Kahan because that song reminds me so much of Charles.
Also I may add more chapters to this eventually, but for now it’s just the one shot. Enjoy!

It’s very rare that fresh prey enters Deepground so willingly, Weiss isn’t inclined to give Tseng up so easily, after all Deepground and SOLDIER are in agreement that what happens underground stays underground.

“Well, last time, during the fight, you said slow, and then you -” Togame lifts himself off a few inches, and Hajime bites back a groan. “Then you headbutted Sakura in the stomach.”
