“You…what?” Dean asks, the beer frozen half-way to his mouth.
Sam flushes ice-cold down to his toes, the exact feeling of hearing a gun cock behind you, the exact feeling of catching a glimpse of something dark and large lunging at you head-on.
He stops dead.
“Nothing.” He says, mouth numb, face numb, fingers numb. His own bottle tilts precariously, and Sam jerks, trying to keep it from spilling over his jeans. He lunges to his feet, trying to play it off, but the adrenaline pulsing through his bloodstream makes it impossible.
Or: Sam accidentally confesses his love to Dean after a hard hunt. Dean doesn't reciprocate. Yet.

Derek saw Stiles stiffen at that, wondering why, but before Stiles could open his mouth to insist that, why yes, Derek was his bodyguard like the brat he was, Derek spoke first.
“I’m Mieczyslaw Stilinski’s bodyguard.”
The confused look that crossed Scott’s face now was kind of annoying. Scott looked at Stiles, then back at Derek, and then at Stiles again.

“You did something to Dean!” Sam exclaims, backing up and pointing in accusation.
“Correct!” Cas says excitedly. “I removed Dean's inhibitions regarding his frequent desire to kiss you. Now whenever he feels the urge, he simply does so, and has no memory of it afterwards. It's my gift to you!”
In which Cas does not understand the meaning of "gift", Dean has selective amnesia, and Sam is confused as hell.

But that’s when he notices them: the rings.
The shining knickknacks on the table to Sam’s left aren’t just pieces of bargain-bin estate fluff. It’s jewelry. Now that Dean’s moved away, a shaft of light falls right onto the table, reflecting light directly into Sam’s vision. He blinks away the bright spots, and there they are. Sitting innocuously on the edge of the table closest to him.
Later, it will feel like fate. Right now, the feeling is inexplicable, as Sam’s burgeoning sentence dies on his tongue.
Or: After Chuck has been defeated and life is as good as it's ever been, Sam impulsively buys a pair of rings at an estate sale. Dean starts acting strangely.
