Before Felix could remove his headphones, he heard it. Heavy, borderline panicked breaths. Felix realized that it must be Hollander. His mic was not turned off when he left the interview. Footsteps. And then a door opening and closing. They had filmed the interview that morning at the offices of the Irina Foundation. It sounded like maybe he had gone into his office.

The Russian pet name set a firework off inside Shane's mind as he heard it cooed from behind him. The intonation was just as he remembered, but the voice was much deeper.He turned and felt himself short circuit. It took every ounce of willpower to not let his jaw drop cartoonishly to the floor. Shane would recognize his individual features anywhere, even after 5 years. By the time Shane presented (at thirteen), he already had scouters interested (at nine), so there was really no time to be an omega. There still isn’t, there is only time for hockey, so he’s simply not — not in any way that matters. He takes his suppressants so he doesn’t stink and so he doesn’t go into heat, he hones his game, he doesn’t make time for anything else. But he thinks about being an omega all the time, and worry like that has a scent.
Or: Shane needs a hysterectomy, and a mate to sign off on it.
