“Stephanie Brown of Earth,” a voice suddenly whispered, a half-formed kind of thing she felt more than heard, and Steph just about jumped out of her skin. “You have the ability to instill great hope. You have been chosen.”
“Oh,” Steph said, and felt a bit like she’d been hit in the back of the head with Harley’s baseball bat. She swallowed, took a breath. The ring twinkled innocently. “Sorry, could you give me a second?”
Steph stepped back from the lip of the roof, spun around, and immediately crouched down to hyperventilate into her knees.
