As he stared down into the lumpy grey goop that was his evening rations, he contemplated whether it was really worth it.
They’d come a very long way just for Grace to give up and die at the last hurdle, both physically and emotionally. The Tau Ceti system was a long, long way away now, and Grace had faced not one but two highly emotional suicide missions. Three, if you counted the time before he was given a military grade roofie and hucked into space without his memories.
Rocky and Grace make it back to Erid! Huzzah!

“I'm good. Just have a slight headache,” Grace muttered, knowing he wasn’t fooling Rocky by insisting he was totally and completely fine, “Gonna get some medication in me, lay down for a few minutes, then I’ll be right as rain.”
“Grace said body was good. Head pain was not mentioned. Rocky no understand rain statement; explain, question?”
Rocky rolled behind Grace as he started back toward the medbay, resigned to his fate as another pulse of pain shot through his skull. He tried to shake it off, clearing his throat, “Right as rain means…uh, ‘good as new,’ I guess? Does that make sense?”
He stumbled over a discarded jumpsuit on the floor, hissing when his already bruised knees dug into the metal floor. God, he was really stupid like this, huh?
“Grace wrong as rain now.”
(Grace has a migraine, Rocky helps as best as he can.)

The staggering amount of robust, high-level pokemon was not the only challenge to be conquered in Cerulean cave, much to the starters’ dismay. It’s geography – with tunnels that mocked perspective, deciding on a whim whether to result on a dead end or the entrance of another maze, alongside a source-less glow that would dull in the most inconvenient of times – the journey was becoming not just complicated, but also increasingly infuriating.
So, after a few hours of running with circles, when Bulbasaur was no longer able to carry Charmander around, they settle on a safe enough, secluded spot and take a small break.
This could only end well.
