“We won.” There’s a stupidly amused smile hooking one corner of Maekar’s lips, almost imperceptibly, while he says “No more battles this time.”
He can tell Baelor wants to kiss him from the way his upper lip twitches and his fingers close into fists just to be let loose once more right after.

“We won.” Maekar states the obvious, because victory is buzzing in his head, rushing in his veins.
“There will be more battles to win.”
Maekar shoves at his shoulder and Baelor, unprepared to take the hit, takes half a step back.
“We won,” he says again, his voice coming clear even past the slit of his barbute helmet. He crowds Baelor, getting in his space, and he shoves at him again. This time, however, Baelor stands his ground, feet dragging slightly in the mud.

Kaz finds himself fidgeting again, with the same beat of the tune echoing through the airport. Only the idle bounce of Ocelot’s boot against the bar stool indicates him doing the same. They both glance to each other in unison, and swallow, looking away.
Impossible they’re not thinking the same thing. Of the same man. The only one who might’ve given a shit about such things.--
