    It’s odd, hearing Bakugou speak so calmly about death and loss. Bakugou is all fire and rage and sparks flying from the palms of his hands, fighting tooth and nail to be the best, to be number one, to survive another day. But now, in this isolated and frigid cave, he is cool, he is collected, he has accepted that he may very well die in excruciating pain without seeing the love of his life again.

    And it kills Kaminari.

    Cautiously, Steve puts his hand on Clint’s neck, lightly enough to be shaken off, close enough to feel the shift of his spinal cord under his palm and between his fingers and thumb. The magnitude of his trust feels like a chasm stretched out beneath them, and the freefall of accepting it leaves Steve breathless.

    It would take nothing, absolutely nothing, for Steve to break Clint’s neck like this. One squeeze, and he would drop like a torn sack of barley.

    “You’re really bad at hugging, Cap,” Clint says, and Steve laughs, deep in his chest.

    A set of suspicious murders has Chief of Police Carter calling in Section Chief Coulson from the BAU to help them catch what might be a serial killer. As good as Detectives Rogers and Barnes are, they'll need help if they want to catch the unsub the press are calling Red Skull, a killer whose motives need to be evaluated close-up as well as from a distance. Barnes, especially - who doesn't like help and doesn't like people - might be surprised by the way this case unfolds, if he can manage to work with SSAs Romanoff and Barton long enough to find some answers.

    yep, it's the Avengers in a Criminal Minds AU, brace yourself. Clint and Bucky stumble against a unique case, a ruthless killer, and a set of skills that shouldn't match up as well as they do. For the Winterhawk fic exchange, 2018, the year I threw myself into the fireplace for love of this stupid pairing.
