Summary
Eddie realizes in stages: the man’s slings look professional even if they’re made out of cast-off fabric from God knows where. The boy is wearing a striped shirt. The man’s leg is stiff, like Buck always denies his still gets sometimes and his brain gets caught on the word Buck, plays it over and over, and if he thinks the word and after that name he’s going to have to fall to his knees and never get up again.
Buck doesn't lose Chris in the tsunami, but as a result, he injures both of his arms. Eddie brings him home, and discovers that he wants him to stay.

What walked into his studio was the physical embodiment of every secret bisexual leaning Binghe had ever had, condensed into one delicately boned man in prAna compression leggings and loose tank top with the sides cut open to reveal tantalizing glimpses of his rib cage and the barest hint of a pair of pink areolas. The man looked up at Binghe with soft black eyes behind his round glasses that just made them look even bigger. His thin, soft-looking lips curved up in a smile.
Binghe felt his own grin freeze.
“I’m Shen Yuan, I’m here for your three o’clock one-on-one?”
“Great!” Binghe’s mouth said, while his brain continued to buffer. “Go ahead and get your mat set up while I check something in front. I’ll be right back.”
He let himself out of the solo studio and caught Hualing’s eye over by the counter. “I’ll bring your money in the morning, bitch.”

Summary
Eddie has to stop Chris from sneaking food to the dog during dinner. “I know the meatballs aren’t your favorite,” he says tiredly. “But they have garlic in them, which isn’t good for the dog.”
Chris stops immediately, to his credit. “Sorry,” he says, and leans down to performatively whisper to the dog, “You’re not missing much anyway.”
“Hey,” Eddie says, with no heat. “I know they aren’t as good as --” He catches himself.
Chris wilts in his chair. “Sorry,” he mumbles again, and Eddie hates himself so much that for a second, he can’t breathe.
“Hen brought treats we can give the dog after dinner,” he tries instead, and Ladder Truck Dog’s ears prick up at the sound of words he recognizes, which at least makes Chris smile, just a little.

Buck goes missing. The 118 gets a dog. These two facts are unrelated, right?
