Throughout these ten days, Damon has to battle himself internally to figure out what he was going to do with the traitor perk.

“Let’s stay together,” he suggests gruffly. “While we do our tasks.”
“Okay! Are you new or something?” the pink guy asks cheerily.
“Yes.”
The perfect excuse if he messes stuff up.
Damon Maitsu is an impostor; human Kai Monteago is his alibi.

Kai’s grip tightens, and his fingers curl past Damon’s sleeve, over his wrist. He really radiates heat: just from this touch, Damon can feel this low-level hum, like a glow from the inside out. It could be stifling, but Damon’s always run cold. He can’t find it in himself to pull away.
