    Summary

In which two deeply damaged people try, badly, to offer each other olive branches without mistaking them for weapons--or turning it into a sex thing.

    (It's definitely a sex thing.)

    --

(Trans!Grace repeatedly gets the rug pulled out from under him. Simon continues to require several therapists. Unfortunately, there are still no therapists on Erid.)

    Summary

The door opened, before he could decide whether to be graciously accommodating, or brusquely dismissive. A smallish figure shambled in, more raincoat than man, with a mess of curls - mess being the operative word - and a sheepish expression. He looked to be somewhere between his late thirties and early fifties, but where, precisely, was unclear.

“Ah, so sorry to bother you, I can see you’re busy, but, if I might just have a word with a Mr …” - the man surreptitiously checked a notebook, as if his failure of memory might somehow be hidden from plain sight - “Elias Bowtchard?”

    Summary

Simon is more convinced that this is hell. He will be forced to relive his last moments alive for eternity, his blood wasted to slick the throat of the eel. He will be chewed, dissolved, discarded, entombed, chewed, dissolved, discarded, entombed for infinity. He tries to exercise some will in this cycle by falling back into unconsciousness. After all, he figures, if this truly is his punishment, some devil will ensure he’s awake to feel his death.

It is not a devil who wakes him. His eyes open to see a light lift him from the blood, pull him from the grasping hands of the damned.

    “Angel?”

    The angel does not respond.

On their way back to Erid, Rocky and Grace encounter some weird blips. They've been watching Scooby-Doo and are getting a bit bored so might as well do some sleuthing of their own, right? Who knows, could be someone else trying to fix the Astrophage problem. And it's on the way! How convenient! They aren't prepared to find another human, who is living a blood soaked submarine. In space.

    Summary

Simon was prepared to die alone in the depths of a blood ocean for the sake of the remnants of humanity. He wasn't prepared to live a changed man - monster - in an entirely changed universe, with little memory of how he'd gotten there or who he was or what he'd done.

Who the fuck was this Ryland person, and what did he want with him?

    Summary

To his surprise, though, the stranger doesn’t fight back. He puts his hands up and stares at Simon with wide eyes. “Hey, um,” he starts, “I know you probably can’t, like, understand me—but, uh, I was trying to help you. You looked a little—I kind of thought you were a corpse, to be honest.”

A corpse? Simon squints. The organs at his throat gasp for air strangely and then, failing that, close up with an air of finality. Briefly, he allows himself a glance back at the panel that leads to where he had been, but only sees a white wall smudged with the blood he’s still coated in.

“Yeah, you were kind of free-floating.” The guy swallows. “In space.”

Simon wants to squeeze the life out of him for saying such absolute bullshit—to his face, no less. Except his eyes still burn from that light. That blazing light. It couldn’t have been what he thought it was.

or: Doctor Ryland Grace brings what he assumes is a dead body onto the Hail Mary. One small issue: the body isn’t actually as dead as he thought, and Simon is freaking out.
