Summary
The beach is always changing.
Alex finds it ironic that this is the first time in his life he's letting himself sit still, and it’s in a place that is never the same twice. Waves come in and replace the sand and silt with every swell. People leave behind footprints that mix and overlap and then wear away. Sand castles are built, destroyed, and built again differently.
It's a place consistent in its inconsistency.
But for now, it's home. Or something like it.

Alex feels like his life is falling apart. His girlfriend broke up with him because she thinks he’d rather be married to his job than to her. He fucking hates his job. Obviously, this is a clear fucking sign that he should get a tattoo. A big one.
What Alex doesn’t expect when he walks into the tattoo studio, is to be faced with his past and regrets he’s been living with for a decade.
Maybe it’s a sign – June would call it fate. Whatever it is, Alex hopes it might lead to a second chance.

He’s certainly not Henry’s Alex. Not anymore.
“Surely you could have called someone else?”
“All I know is that I rang him and said we have a damsel in distress and he was at my front door ten minutes later.”

Henry ends up in jail after a terrible first date. It's pretty convenient that his best friend is a lawyer. If only they were still speaking to each other.
