Thomas Shelby was no different, a ghost of his former self, haunted by memories of war. Viktor came from the Undercity, he was a Zaunite through and through. At least that was what he thought before he returned there after years of living in Piltover, deperately chasing after a rumor - his last chance at staying alive since he refused to touch the Hexcore ever again. As he walked through the once familiar maze of paths and bridges of the Lanes, he found himself unable to recognize them anymore. They were no longer familiar, instead he felt the eyes of everyone on him with that sort of anger he would sometimes look at Topsiders with in his younger years. He was a Piltie in their eyes. And he felt like one too. Lost and alone. He didn't belong there - not anymore.
But time was running out and he had no other choice but to keep up his hunt. Only once did he run into a friendly face, despite never meeting her before. But everyone has a hidden motive down in the Undercity and she must have had one too. There was something deceitful behind the smile she gave him when she sent him in the direction of his goal. There are three rules to surviving life in the Corps.
The first is simple: once you’re in, you’re in.
The second: no patterns. Patterns signal comfort and comfort may as well be a target on your back, begging for someone to come and take their shot (or several).
And the third rule? Don’t get attached. Keep your circle small so there’s less collateral to be used against you — against the organization that owns you.
For the longest time, Sanemi Shinazugawa found Rule Three to be the easiest one to follow. He has his brother and no one else. His parents are dead; he has no friends beyond those in the Corps with him, and he knows better than to get overly invested in any of them. His inner circle is as tight as it can get.
But then he chooses your bookstore to hide in, and that's when everything falls apart.
