Summary
Every year within the Dwendalian Empire, one of the biggest events on the calender is The Annual Dance. An extravagant night in which the richest and most powerful couples in the Empire and the rest of Wildemount are able to mingle, broker deals, catch up on gossip, and dance the night away, with the best couple receiving a special prize.
Beau had thought her days of going to the Annual Dance were over, but when a mission from the Cobalt Soul gets them two invitations, she finds herself and Jester being assigned to infiltrate the dance, to serve as a distraction while the rest of the Nein get up to the real shady business.
This would be fine, except to make a distraction they have to compete to be the best dancers. Which means pretending to be a couple. A couple in love. Beau is in love with Jester. Jester is in love with Beau. Neither of them has told the other yet. This whole night would be a lot simpler if they did.

Rumi squinted between them and the bag. "Why."
"Because as much as you don't seem to like us, we like you just fine."

"Well, come on. Aren't you going to bite somebody with those big sharp teeth of yours?" Mira prompted again with a raised brow, shaking Zoey's arm slightly, as if genuinely trying to entice Rumi to take a bite.
Instead of taking the proffered bait, Rumi turned her head away with a strong air of ‘well now I don't want to.'
"Thought so." Mira drawled, unimpressed. "Now how about you let us help you inside?"

A higher power is clearly at play but at least the visions of her increasingly violent deaths have stopped. Her birthday party happens, worse this time, but at least that means she’ll be free soon. If only Edward was the last of her concerns. Leah shifting when she did was a surprise, but the vision that followed was an even greater one. Bella has done her best to avoid her without hurting her, but it won’t work for much longer. Time is running out and things are spinning further and further out of control. And now she has to deal with Rosalie and Emmett’s protective behavior. If only she could figure out what it all means.
