Hikaru couldn't look away. It was Yoshiki’s body, his face, his memories. But not his soul. And the longer he stayed, the more he wondered if he was lying to himself, convincing himself that love could exist in something so broken, so wrong. He couldn't run. Not from the thing that replaced his friend. And not from the twisted love it gave. Even if it meant accepting something that wasn’t real.

When he first set eyes on Gi-hun, Sang-woo wasn't even sure it was him. Having adjusted his glasses, he carefully observed the person who he believed to be his childhood companion. From his spot on the second floor of beds, he could only see his back and a mass of messy hair. If he could only turn around, he would be able to see his- oh there he was.
Sang-woo’s eyes widened a fraction. The last time he'd seen him was for Christmas, or something like it, when he’d allowed himself some time to visit his hometown, and nearly a couple of years had gone by since then. Gi-hun's hair had grown. A lot. Sang-woo could tell it wasn't intentional, that it was merely a secondary effect of having skipped going to the barber for months. It was messy and chaotic.
