Summary
Oruggio doesn’t have a care in the world. Qifrey’s hand is keeping him close, firm against his back, and their students are having fun. The pale afternoon sun has favoured the celebrations, yet the air is crisp and humid and it smells like pastries and caramelised fruit. “It’s such a wonderful day, isn’t it?” He comments casually, rubbing at the witch’s nape again.
Qifrey chuckles and takes a breath, wearing a bright look on his face. He tilts his head down so their noses almost touch. “You’re just as wonderful,” he whispers.

Qifrey meant to say he was fine, that he was just remembering their days as apprentices, that Agott was settling in well, or even that Olly was so good with her.
What he actually said was, “What if she drowns in the bath?”

“Can you show me?” Qifrey asks, feigning just a little of his frustration. Running his fingers up and down his own neck only feels marginally less stupid than Olruggio lying isolated beside him, his want palpable.
“Show you?” Olly’s voice is thready.
“Yes,” Qifrey replies, tilting his head to look at Olly until his gaze is met. “I’ll follow you.”
