    Rhaegar Targaryen defeats Robert Baratheon at the Trident, slaying the leader of the rebellion and bringing the war to its end. Eddard Stark agrees to parley, and a fragile peace is forged. Lyanna Stark is brought to King’s Landing, where she safely gives birth to a son, Gaemon Targaryen. With the rebels pardoned and his sister returned, Ned rides north to Winterfell to meet his new wife and son.

    With no bastard to divide them, Ned and Catelyn’s marriage strengthens, and in short time they welcome a second son, Alaric. Peace endures—for a while. Lyanna dies birthing a stillborn daughter, and a grieving Rhaegar sends his son, Gaemon, north to be fostered among his mother’s kin.

    Yet beyond the narrow peace, darker currents stir. Across the Narrow Sea, a Black Dragon rises, and former enemies unite to forge a new Triarchy. And far to the north, beyond the Wall, an ancient power awakens—one that has not been idle, and which already has a hand within the Seven Kingdoms.

Dues are paid, fates are changed, and even destiny itself is covered with a shroud. AU + Time travel. Or alternately:

    The Battle for the Dawn is won, but everyone Bran knew was dead, so he throws a tantrum of epic proportions and drags Bloodraven into tossing unsuspecting and just freshly killed Jon Snow back into the past by sacrificing themselves. Messing with time makes ripples in the timeline, and some things are not the same.

    Maester Aemon still has his sight when Jon Snow arrives at Castle Black to swear his vows. Targaryen’s might have typically had pale hair and purple eyes, but Maester Aemon would recognise his family anywhere.

    His vows have been tested three times before. This is his fourth and final test and, after nearly eighty years of being a bystander at the Wall whilst his family destroyed themselves, Aemon decides that enough is enough. He’s been a man of the Nights Watch for most of his life; but he’s been a Targaryen all his life.

    He might be old and trapped at the Wall, but he grew up in Kings Landing and no one knows the Game of Thrones like he does.

    And so, everything changes.
