Summary
In the endless cold of the Underdark, debts are rarely paid in coin.
After helping defend the respected Zaknafein Do’Urden from a hook horror, Belgar, a soldier from a lower house of Menzoberranzan, struggles to understand the weapons master’s insistence on ‘repaying’ him.

Summary
There was a hunger in Phael.
A crawling thing that whispered in moments of silence. Not divine, not infernal. Not Bhaal's doing (though some might blame it on that). No, this was something far more insidious. Something *internal*, rather than the typical rage brought by being Karma's Fury.
It was a sickness of thought. A curse he had carried since his oath, for to *act* on those impulses would be to shatter it, and his spirit, entirely. And that, above all, he feared.
He'd had just learned to love deeply. Fiercely. And because of that, the thoughts felt all the more monstrous. As if his love was inviting danger. As if his relationships made them vulnerable to the storm inside him.
But they were only thoughts. They were not truths.
He did not wish to harm the innocent. He did not wish to indulge in cruelty. But in his weakest hours with the tadpole in his brain, when the pressure in his skull rose like steam and his breath could not quite steady… he wondered.
If he faltered, who would be there to save him from himself?

Summary
The world held its breath a dozen hours before a certain party marched into Cazador’s manor. In that hush, Astarion speaks with no performance nor flirtation— just a question daring to be asked.

Summary
It haunts him every year without fail. Usually, he’d wake up in an empty bed of a motel or something, drowning in whiskey-flavoured sorrows for the entire day, and then end up in a different bed with one or more other people. It was a crude coping mechanism, far from a fitting tribute to Dr. Liao's life, and more often than not left Cole feeling even more guilty.

Summary
“This is what a Shimada does. We take care of our people, because they take care of us. When they are hungry, we feed them. When they are hurt, we heal them. And when their city is burning about them, we quench the flames. A leader must be responsible, or else he is nothing more than a parasite.”
While their castle was indeed strong stone, the Shimada were no gods, but people—and criminals at that. But the Shimada understood that honour and loyalty forge the strongest bond between ruler and ruled.

Summary
Six months after the fall of the Netherbrain, Withers plans to send out an invitation to the heroes of Faerun, bringing them all back together for a lovely little reunion party.
Five months after the fall of the Netherbrain, someone else beats him to it.
(In which I take the six main BG3 companions, dump them into a Curse of Strahd campaign, close the lid, and shake vigorously.)

Summary
Inside the box was a beautiful violin, carved out of the same dark wood, it shone in the low light of the lantern, and was somewhat heavy as he lifted it out of its box, leaving behind the soft fabric that was left to cushion the instrument, presumably so it would not be damaged when it hit the floor. It came with a carved bow with soft roses and thorns etched into the wood, and when he lifted it to his chin, he couldn't help but smile to himself.
A small folded piece of parchment caught his eye, placed between the neck and the strings, and he was cautious to take it between two fingers and onto his lap. The perfume filled his senses, along with the faintest scent of smoke and wine, and he placed the instrument down to read it.
"Your songs bring such light to my lonely castle. A gift for you. Keep playing, pretty.
Count Strahd Von Zarovich"
--Escher gets a special gift from the Devil Strahd, and his little, forgettable life in Krezk is forever changed as he catches the Devil's gaze, especially when a new face comes to the tiny town and the creatures of the Mists get more and more hostile.

Summary
Strahd von Zarovich is many things: count, prince, undead. He considers himself a warrior, a pursuer of the arcane, and a coveter of beautiful things. However, submissive is the last word he would ever use to describe himself. In light of this, he wonders why he now finds himself tied to his bed and bare as the day he was born with three of his consorts smirking down at him.

Summary
Strahd’s gaze drifts up toward the painting once more. His voice takes on a wistful tone. “I wish to see her again. Tatyana. I fear very few things, but forgetting her is one of them. As the centuries trudge on, I find myself needing to think harder about certain details. The sound of her voice. Her mannerisms. Her smile.”
”Would you like me to search the valley for an adequate woman for the spell?” asks the dusk elf.
Strahd is quiet for a long while. "In truth, Rahadin,” his attention flickers back to him, “I was hoping you might agree to be its target.”
