The room stilled—not silent, but attentive. Sanemi’s eyes locked on Giyuu’s bandaged arm.
“You gonna tell us why your sleeve’s bled through,” Sanemi growled, “or do you want me to guess?”
Giyuu met his gaze. Calm. Controlled. A few of the other Hashira glanced over, not surprising—Sanemi’s confrontations were rarely quiet.
Giyuu straightened. “I was careless,” he answered simply. Methodically.
Sanemi scoffed. “Careless? You?” He took a step forward, closing the distance between them with that sharp, storm-like presence of his.
“You’re annoyingly precise to a fault. You don’t just get ‘careless.’ So try again.”He reached out—not touching Giyuu, but close enough that the warmth of his hand brushed through the air between them. Too close. Giyuu’s breath caught, his pulse tripping over itself, his skin tightening with a prickling awareness.

Sanemi hated the guy. He hated every single time he didn’t show up to a mandatory Hashira meeting. He hated every time he opened his snarky ass mouth. He also hated when he wouldn’t speak up. He hated his ugly haori. He really, truly hated his blue eyes that were full of depth like the ocean, and he hated that his eye color was the only color he could see. He respected Tomioka a tiny fraction at most, and despised him at the very least.
