Julie convinces a begrudging Randall to give her a hickey in a devious attempt to make her new crush jealous. Unfortunately, the town’s advanced healing powers cause the hickey to heal and disappear before Julie’s crush can see. Julie believes this is just as much Randall’s problem as it is her own.
Julie grinned. “What’re you so scared of?”
Scared? He wasn’t scared, he was terrified. Terrified he’d like it. Terrified she wouldn’t.

Perplexed, Randall shook his head. “How can you say that after everything you’ve seen?”
She shrugged. “I’m still here.”
It was a cold reminder to him that he also was still here, despite his efforts. He looked her over. The wind whipped her hair across her frost-reddened cheeks and easy-going smile. Strings tightened in his chest.
“And we still have weed,” Julie added playfully, to which he brightened significantly.
