Summary

The guest quarters were in a row, bigger than the ones that were usually given to the disciples when they arrived from other clans, Sandu Shengshou's being slightly larger and more wider. Lan Jingyi frowned, finding it unfair how the disciples were treated as little pets. Though when he tried to find a reasonable debate for it, and as his hand reached to knock on the wooden door, he heard a low groan from inside.
His eyes widened, and his cheeks coloured. Was Sandu Shengshou perhaps...
But then a louder moan came from inside, and his mouth snapped open, as his ears picked up on who that was. It was Zewu Jun! Were Sandu Shengshou and Zewu Jun having... sex? He slapped a hand onto his face to subdue his forthcoming scream, which had, woefully, made a huge slapping noise. Luckily for him though, the two were inattentive at the moment, and hadn't heard him.

"Um...yeah. I finally made it back here." Lan Huan replied, albeit awkwardly.
He didn't expect to be received so openly at all.
"That's nice." Jiang Cheng smiled discreetly "Everyone missed you."
"Even you?" he couldn't help asking, too hopeful.
Jiang Cheng gave him a long look, then blew smoke into the night air.
"I get the feeling you think I hate you."
"Is it because I wouldn't blame you if you hated me?"
Or Jiang Cheng and Lan Huan love, but at different times, in years they can't be together, until eventually everything works out.

Summary
Post seclusion, Lan Xichen continues to struggle with grief and guilt over Jin Guangyao’s actions and how much blame should be attached to himself. He has become more adept at hiding the extent of it, of living everyday with what feels like a crushing weight on his chest.
The four years following the revelation about his golden core and the events at the Guanyin Temple have been awful. Jiang Cheng’s reputation as short tempered and unreasonably angry have intensified, to the point that many seem to think that qi deviation is something that probably lies in his not too distant future.
A poisoning at a discussion conference finally brings things to a head, forcing them both to confront parts of their thoughts and lives that they have tried to avoid.
